Herring and whitefish for the industry and wholesale traders
The Import and Export company First Fimex GmbH Hamburg is trading about 40 Years nationally and
internationally in fish.
One special part is the herring.
The program includes the supply of herring in all various forms to the industry, wholesale traders,
smokeries etc. fresh, frozen, marinated and salted.
Fimex was founded 1971 by Georg Sebelin and Jürgen Köser. 1990 Carsten Nitsche joint the First
Fimex GmbH and brought his experiences on fish import and export from Rostock into the company.
Since 2011 Carsten Nitsche has the majority at the First Fimex GmbH.
The heavy decrease of herring landings in Europe made First Fimex GmbH to start as first German
company building up production capacity with filleting machines in the United States and Canada in
order to cover the demand of German and European fish industry with frozen herring. In this course
the production of semi ready herring products was also developed.
Meanwhile herring became short worldwide and First Fimex GmbH began not only to import frozen
herring and herringflaps from British Columbia but build up again as first German company
production of sardinops with own filleting machines in north - south Peru.
In our days First Fimex GmbH is engaged to import mainly herring and mackerels out of the whole
North Atlantic for the processing industry in Germany and Europe.
Mackerel and white fish
Like the herring, mackerels and sprats are also a traditional product, dealt in by First Fimex GmbH.
On the side the white fish fillets increased at First Fimex GmbH to one of the major turn over items.
The First Fimex GmbH is importing and selling white fish fillets mainly in natural form and deliver
these fillets frozen to whole sellers, large users and home service companies. Main products in the
fillet program are, saithe, cod, pike perch red fish and plaice only to list up a part.
